On June 22nd we hosted a breakfast meeting in Ottawa entitled “Enhance RAI-MDS Nursing Rehab Outcomes”. The take away message was clear.
“With RAI-MDS in place, we have no choice now …….. we have to realize measureable improvements in outcomes and this means moving from a sedentary paradigm to a movement paradigm”
To accomplish this we need to establish a “whole home” philosophy of movement lead by nursing and which takes advantage of:
The front line influence of the nursing function
The state of the art in motor control and movement science
The therapy vendor infrastructure and experience that exists within LTC
“Based on the feedback at the meeting, we have decided to organize a series of 1 day seminars that will expand on each of these areas. The dates and locations are:
Ottawa - Sept 14th at Villa Marconi
London – Oct 24th – St. Joseph’s Hospital
Cambridge – Oct 25th – Fairview Mennonite Home
Hamilton – Oct 26th – Shalom Village
Toronto – Oct 27th – Shepherd Lodge
There will be a $220.35 charge for the day which will include breakfast and lunch. The target audience would be DOC’s, Restorative Nurses, RAI Coordinators & PSWs.
To get a better sense of what the full day session would cover, we recorded the breakfast meeting and divided it into three elements: (click on any element to view the video)
We will send out more information over the next month.
